Songwriting Workshop – Last Reminder

Published: Fri, 08/27/21

Here's the last reminder to sign up now if you want to join me for tomorrow's songwriting workshop. We've already gotten into a pretty great conversation over in the course comments about how to write blues lyrics that are contemporary yet still sound like blues, and I've posted a playlist of some of the songs we'll be talking about as well. My hope is to give you both a plan for how to start your own songwriting practice, and the tools to help you with each step of the process – where to find ideas, how to work phrase by phrase to build a verse, how to choose a form for your tune, and how to keep going once you've got an idea or two that you like.

I'll illustrate some of this by looking at classic songs, and some of it by deconstructing the steps I took to write one of my own songs. While there's no getting around the need for ideas and inspiration of your own, there are definitely tangible tools you can employ to make the most of your ideas once you've got them. We'll break down the development process, and for each phase of that process you'll get a short checklist of choices to make and next steps to take. It should be a lot of fun, so if you'd like join me – or access the whole thing later if you're not free tomorrow – just click the link below to register, and I'll see you there!
