High Praise

When I started The Fingerstyle Five a year ago, I built a community forum into it, and from the start the forum has been one of my favorite things about the membership. I love getting to see and hear firsthand how people are using and playing the material. I love that people who might otherwise have no place to geek out about fingerstyle blues have a place to post their versions of the songs, discuss tricky spots in the exercises, compare notes on everything from right-hand position to left-hand fingerings to what tempo to play a song at, and get to know each others' playing. I love that we're developing a common language for talking about  this kind of music. I even love that when I (inevitably) have typos in my tablature, I get to hear about it right away, usually from multiple sources.

At the beginning, I didn't know how the whole community thing would go over. I certainly couldn't have anticipated that, one year in, existing members would want to come and take part in the live streams I do to encourage new people to sign up. At yesterday's session, which was about both how and what to practice and, of course, how the membership can help with that, it seemed like there were as many current members on hand as there were people considering joining. I didn't want to spend the whole time squinting at my monitor, so I didn't get to read most of the chat comments until the session was over. But when I did, I discovered that the current members were doing a far better job selling the membership than I was. Here's what they were saying, while I was trying to explain how the membership works:

"If you can do 'Freight Train,' you can do David's program. This has been the best part of my guitar journey. I'm in six months and have learned so much." – George V.

"Every time we start a new song, I think, 'I'll never get this,' but within a couple of weeks, I've got a passable version." – John A.

"'There are no difficult things, just known and unknown and in-between are doors'. David opens these doors." – Lefteris P.

"The theory module is the best basic guitar theory I've ever done; worth the price of admission alone." – Stuart P.

"I've advanced more in the last 6 months than in years of trying to figure it out on my own. Great program!" – Gary S.

Mercy. A fella couldn't ask for better promo. If you missed yesterday's live stream about how to practice, what to practice, and how the Fingerstyle Five membership can help, you can watch the replay now:
