The Membership – Seriously

Published: Tue, 11/02/21

Modern culture has given us this idea that if you're not getting paid for something but still do it anyway, you're doing it "for fun." Which implies a lack of seriousness about the whole thing. And yet, I'm hard pressed to think of a guitar player I've met who didn't take music seriously, precisely because there are few things that sound more fun to a guitar player than getting to the point of being able to play the way you've always wanted to. And that often has little or nothing to do with being onstage, much less with dry ice and spotlights. It means being able to sit down, wrap your hands around a favorite instrument and coax compelling grooves, expressive solos and complete, satisfying songs from the strings. Serious guitar.

I'm not talking about the working musicians I know, either. I mean anyone I know who loves to play guitar. Just because you might be doing it in a non-professional capacity – o.k.,"for fun" – doesn't mean you don't take it seriously. And just because you've got half a dozen other things vying for your attention every day, that doesn't mean music isn't important to you. If anything, that probably makes it more important. Which makes what time you can find for it all the more valuable, and the need to spend that time wisely all the more essential.

What's not fun is wasting time hunting for the right lessons, practicing the wrong material, and feeling stuck running through the same old repertoire. If you've got a passion for fingerstyle guitar, you deserve lessons that are clear and organized enough to help you make the most of your practice time. Lessons that show you what to work on and how to work on it, and help you understand why you're doing it. Lessons flexible enough to let you work at your own pace, challenging enough to help you move forward, and rewarding to work on regardless of your current level of ability.

For the past two years, the Fingerstyle Five membership has aimed to provide exactly those kinds of lessons, while creating a community of over four hundred guitar players who share your desire to get good at playing fingerstyle blues. Registration remains just $20/month if you join by midnight tonight. So if you want to improve your groove, learn to improvise and build your repertoire – and have serious fun doing so – sign up at the link below:
