Play The Hits

. While the Dauphin is increasingly interested in pushing the cinematic envelope and Ms. Fretboard has always had a taste for the darkly dramatic, I would just as soon watch a relatively sunny film about someone figuring out what they're supposed to do with their life. Plus there's some great Austin footage of Franklin Barbecue and of Gary Clark, Jr. holding forth live at Guerro's, so that was satisfying in a hometown kind of way.

But there's a scene early on where Favreau's then-boss (played by Dustin Hoffman), spoiling for a showdown over what kind of menu to serve the most important food critic in L.A., demands "If you went to see the Stones and Jagger didn't sing 'Satisfaction,' would you be happy? Would you? Come on. I think you should play your hits. Play your hits."

That, of course, turns out to be a terrible idea for Chef Carl Casper. But since it's the end of 2022, and I'm not a fictional chef working in a fictionally hot west coast restaurant, I'm going to take Hoffman's advice anyway. Here, in case you missed them – or even if you didn't, but want to revisit my three best chocolate lava cakes of the year – are, at least according to the numbers, Fretboard Confidential's greatest Youtube hits from the last twelve months. Enjoy, Happy New Year, and see you in 2023!
