The Rundown

School is out here in Austin, and my kids could not be more delighted. Yesterday morning, Ms. Fretboard was out the door early, the Dauphin was off with friends and I was on my way to the studio, so I stuck my head in my daughter's door to give her the rundown. "I'll be here by myself all morning?" she clarified. "That's what it looks like," I said. There was a thoughtful pause as she gazed into the middle distance. "Guess I'll be throwing a rager," she mused. Then she looked my way again. "Juuust...keeping you in the loop."

In today's lesson, I explain how adding just two intervals – the sixth and the ninth – to the blues scale can help you quickly create more fluid, swing- and jazz-influenced licks over the twelve-bar progression.
