The Uncle Duke Angle

that he may not be writing for the magazine much longer, as he's just sent his picture and resume off to the State Department in pursuit of the governership of American Samoa. "What?!" laughs the staffer from behind his shades. "Duke, your resume reads like a police blotter!" "Yeah," grins Duke, "but the picture's sensational!"

Discerning members of my constituency will note that today's newsletter is coming at you about six hours past go time. These things happen. Morever, today's Youtube video being more in the way of a rant than an actual lesson, I will not be saying much in today's missive, seeing as there is opinionation to spare in said video, on a subject near and dear to my heart: how you can, in fact, add some cool jazz vibes – chord substitutions, altered licks, and more – to your blues playing without necessarily learning to play every mode of the melodic minor scale in all twelve keys. Feh! It doesn't have to be that complicated – or that overwhelming.

I explain why, in today's video. You can find it at the link below:

Learn To Play In Just One Key!

Next week, I'll be posting some additional videos that go into a little more detail on some of these jazz/blues topics: how to know when to use altered scales, how to find chord voicings up the neck, and more. Of course, the point, on some level, is to reveal just how fascinating and cool my upcoming Reliable Source workshops are going to be, but I like to think there will also be enough concrete information in these next few Youtube videos that you could just take the ideas and run with them yourself, should you be so inclined.

At any rate, more information about my three upcoming minor blues workshops is available at the link below, including a video in which I solo on a G minor blues and explain what I'll be teaching in the workshops. Even if you don't plan to sign up, the solo is sensational!
