I had to run into the supermarket a couple of days ago and they were already ginned up for the Fourth of July. Anything you can put icing on, they had done it up in red, white and blue.
Also anything paper you could serve something on, or anything tinsel to adorn the family mansion. I mean, I was just there to get toothpaste, Swiss chard and a very particular kind of peanut butter, and they didn't
even have the chard, so, one of my less successful trips, but still, I couldn't help noticing.
Just like you probably can't help noticing it's Tuesday, not Friday, so why the news from Dave on a day like this? Well, dig.
Maybe the 4th is not your jam; maybe you're not big into icing (heresy!!), maybe by Sunday you'll be done with all the leftover potato salad, and looking for something to do with your afternoon.
If that's the case,
listen up.
This coming Sunday afternoon, at 2:30pm Central to be precise, I will be offering a free hourlong workshop live on my Youtube channel. It's called:
My Three Rules For Playing Better Fingerstyle Blues
I know, I know. They could be anybody's rules, right? And how does one get them down to
three, anyway? Seems a little arbitrary, no?
Well, the thing is, if you want to learn new blues tunes, and how to play them as solo fingerstyle guitar pieces, it helps to have a bit of a plan for how to go about it.
Otherwise, you'll just find yourself grinding through the first few measures over and over again, and never really getting any further. You may even get really good at those first few measures, but you may never get to the point
where you can play the whole song.
So in this free workshop, I'm going to show you a few basic right-hand excercises, a couple of ideas for how to turn an eight-bar tune into a complete-sounding song, and how to start adding improvised blues licks to that song.
These are the same kinds of tools and ideas I teach in my membership, the Fingerstyle Five. So if you've ever wondered what kind of mysterious hoodoo we get up to behind those closed doors, think of
this as a chance to kick the tires for free and learn some helpful moves along the way.
Plus, it'll be fun. Cupcakes optional :-).
