On our recent trip to the ancestral seat in Massachusetts, Ms. Fretboard suggested a trip to the Isabella Gartner museum in Boston. Although a latecomer to the visual arts, I currently find myself a pretty big fan of scoping out paintings and such, and the Gartner did not disappoint.
And while, like my kids, I generally refrain from taking photos in the museum as a means of ensuring I really look at what's
in front of me, I ran into a student of mine in the corridor that joins the practical, admin side of the museum to the actual 1903 Roman-palazzo-styled four-story phenomenon that is the museum itself.
As a result, I still sort of had music on the brain as I made may way through the floors of the Gartner, which led me to filter what I saw through a sort of selective narrative about what I found. So while the Gartner, as per Ms. G's own instructions, does not include labels for
any of the artwork on display, I have supplied my own for five of the items I saw:

I'm not sure if the guitars on the wall are Adirondack or Engelman spruce. Maybe these guys just broke a lot of strings and liked to come prepared.
