I do three hour-long streams a month in the membership, and the first half of each one is usually a pretty focused presentation of the week's topic. Right now, I'm teaching "Statesboro Blues," and starting next week, I'll be spending a few weeks on exercises and licks for improvising in drop D tuning.
Once I've gone over what I came to talk about, though, I stop for questions, so I can clear
up things like chord fingerings, right-hand issues or various technique challenges. But along the way, people tend to ask about other things as well, so the last ten or fifteen minutes are often a bit of a free-for-all.
As long as we've got the time, I love when someone brings up something tangential to the week's specific lesson. One way or another, we're probably still talking about blues, or fingerstyle guitar, or both, and one of the fun things about teaching live, or a
digital facsimile thereof, is having to think on my feet when a curve ball comes my way.
A couple of weeks ago, someone asked me about practicing with the metronome. Afterwards, I realized this would make a good Youtube topic, too, but sometimes things just aren't as cool – or concise – the second time around.
So for today's Youtube video, I've excerpted that moment from the membership live stream to present here on the channel. You can find it at the link
